Supreme Court Justice Hugo Black orders the
immediate admittance ofJames Meredith to the
University of Mississippi. Governor Ross Barnett bars
Meredith's entry no matter. President Kennedy
federalizes the National Guard and forces his admittance.

In Engel v. Vitale, in a 6 to 1 ruling the US
Supreme Court ruled that state-sponsored prayer in schools was
unconstitutional. Engel became the basis for several subsequent
decisions which have all reinforced the concept of the Establishment Clause of the 1st Amendment.

religion."

most loved Pope in history. Though he died early in 1963 from
stomach cancer, it was he who called and convened the
